Equipment and spread advisory
The rig on the lease is usually the rig the contractor owns, not the rig the crossing wants. Sometimes that is fine. Knowing which times it is not is worth a great deal.
Why we can speak to this
This practice ran a thirteen-rig fleet across five classes, from a twenty-tonne walk-over machine to a three-hundred-and-seventy-five-tonne maxi rig — and two of those classes were machines built in its own shop rather than bought. Specifying, commissioning, maintaining and eventually selling that fleet is a different body of knowledge from operating one, and it is unusual in a consultancy.
What we are asked
Is this the right class?
Pull and torque against the computed loads with the proper margin, drill-pipe size and grade for the radius, and whether the machine can set the entry angle the profile needs.
Is the spread complete?
Mud system capacity against hole volume, solids control to the right cut, navigation including a fallback, tooling by formation, containment, and the support fleet that keeps all of it running.
Will it do what the submission claims?
Reading a contractor's equipment list against the production rate they have promised, and identifying where the two do not meet.
Should we buy this machine?
Technical due diligence on a used rig or package: specification against intended work, condition, what is missing, and what it will actually cost to field.
What is our fleet worth?
Condition and capability assessment of an existing fleet — for sale, for financing, for insurance, or for a decision about whether to keep owning iron at all.
Can this be specified better?
Where a machine or a tooling package is being procured or built, a review of the specification before it is committed.
